Also known as biological chemistry, is the study of chemical processes within and relating to living organisms. By controlling information flow through biochemical signaling and the flow of chemical energy through metabolism, biochemical processes give rise to the complexity of life. Over the last decades of the 20th century, biochemistry has become so successful at explaining living processes that now almost all areas of the life sciences from botany to medicine to genetics are engaged in biochemical research. Today, the main focus of pure biochemistry is on understanding how biological molecules give rise to the processes that occur within living cells, which in turn relates greatly to the study and understanding of whole organisms.

Biochemistry is closely related to molecular biology, the study of the molecular mechanisms by which genetic information encoded in DNA is able to result in the processes of life. Depending on the exact definition of the terms used, molecular biology can be thought of as a branch of biochemistry, or biochemistry as a tool with which to investigate and study molecular biology.

WHY STUDY BIOCHEMISTRY AT SAI?

Our comprehensive M.Sc. Biochemistry course is designed for those seeking to enhance their skills as biochemists. Focused on understanding how biological molecules drive cellular processes, this program provides deep insights into how these processes impact whole organisms.

This MSc in Biochemistry, offered in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, stands out for its practical approach, with a significant emphasis on laboratory work. Students gain hands-on experience and develop essential skills demanded by the industry. The Department of Biochemistry offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with key topics covered in the master's course including biomolecules, cell biology, physiology, plant biochemistry, and bioanalytical techniques.

Our programs are tailored to shape future leaders in biomedical sciences. Upon graduation, Sai University students are well-equipped to enter the workforce or pursue advanced graduate studies.

Department of Biochemistry

Biochemistry is concerned with molecules of life and has contributed many life-boosting inventions. Basically, Biochemistry deals with different biomolecules like proteins, polysaccharides, fat, DNA, RNA, enzymes hormones etc. It is an essential subject for all biological disciplines, viz., medical, agriculture, pharmacy, biotechnology, microbiology, veterinary etc

Aim of Biochemistry
  1. To impart knowledge about composition, structure and functions of different biomolecules.
  2. To learn to break biological systems into their working components and modify the activities of living cells.
  3. To equip students with current technical know-how of various analytical techniques
  4. To prepare students for higher education and advanced research.
Scope of Biochemistry

The scope of biochemistry extends over a wide range of interests, dealing for example with the detailed chemistry and physics of biological molecules and the way in which they interact with one another to maintain the living state of all living beings. Biochemists are able to dissect biological systems into their working components and to apply their knowledge and skills to modify the activities of living cells. As a result of this basic nature of the subject, biochemists have a choice of an extraordinarily wide range of careers. Biochemists can play an important role in various research labs, pharmaceutical organizations i.e. in Q.C., R&D sector etc. and in various fields needing clinical research skills
